Taylor Zaneri is a postdoctoral researcher on the project ‘The Lives and Afterlives of Imperial Material Infrastructure in Southeastern China’. She is a medieval archaeologist and a GIS specialist. She earned her PhD in Anthropological Archaeology from New York University in 2018. Her dissertation research examined how non-elite rural producers were contributors to the state-building process in Lucca, Tuscany from 1000 to 1300 through their labor and productive choices. This work, titled Producing the City-State: Peasants and Power in Medieval Lucca is being prepared as a monograph.
Before joining the project team, she spent four years as a postdoctoral researcher in the Medieval History Department at the University of Amsterdam on the ERC- funded project 'Healthscaping Urban Europe 1200-1500' directed by Prof. Guy Geltner. She co-authored the publication The dynamics of healthscaping: mapping communal hygiene in Bologna, 1287–1383, as well as the project webpage and WebGIS.
