Sjaak van der Velden

Born Rotterdam 1954. Studied social and economic history at Leiden University (1972-1982). Started his career as a carpenter (1980-2000) and wrote a thesis on strikes in the Netherlands. Graduated at Leiden University in 2000 and has been working for the Historical Sample of the Netherlands (HSN) from 2000 to 2007.

Since 2007 he worked with the Scientific Bureau of the Socialist Party. In 2007 he was also offered a part-time job at the IISH to build an international HUB on labour conflicts. Since the beginning of 2010 Sjaak is an affiliated fellow at the institute and masters the repository on labour conflicts hosted by the IISH.

At the end of 2011 Sjaak left the Socialist Party and started his own historical research bureau Gerrit Gerritsz
