I studied history at UvA, and in the master's phase I took the Military History track. My interest was in how culture affects war, and the different ways in which wars affect societies. Specifically, I specialized in the cultural history of the law of war, military culture of the army, and constructions of masculinity. I wrote my thesis on the military deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terror, the war crimes that took place in them, and the perceptions of the participating Dutch military on that conflict. I graduated in March 2023. Since Feb 2022, I have been working for the IISH. First as a student assistant on the FNV project, and since April 2023 as a research assistant on projects affiliated with union activities.
