Pascal Konings is a research assistant at the International Institute of Social History. He studied history and graduated from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Amsterdam, specializing in early modern literacy and the Dutch East India Company. For his masters’ thesis on rural literacy rates, roles and functions in the Rijnmond area (1695-1769), he was awarded the Historisch Tijdschrift Holland Scriptieprijs 2022.

Pascal has been part of the Exploring Slave Trade in Asia (ESTA) project since 2021. His contributions in the role of research assistant on ESTA include data curation and various database-related duties, along with analysis and (academic) output on ESTA’s findings.
