Bart van Holsteijn is fellow at the IISH and a PhD researcher at the University of Gothenburg. His dissertation focuses on how institutional change in the chartered territories of the Dutch Atlantic was produced by the conflicting interests of Dutch, local and colonial economic and political elites. His research interests are situated in the intersection of the histories of slavery, colonialism and capitalism, and global labour history more widely. 

He has previously worked as a researcher at the IISH in relation to the slavery history of the Insinger Stichting.
