Opening hours of the reading room

Monday - Thursday: 9.00 – 17.00

The reading room is closed on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and on the following public holidays:

  • 1 January    New Year's Day
  • 1 April          Easter Monday
  • 9 May          Ascension Day
  • 20 May        Whit Monday
  • 25 December 2024 - 2 January 2025

Registration & house rules

Anyone wishing to do research in the archival and library collections of IISH or NEHA, or in the Press Collection of the NIBG, is welcome to visit the reading room.

Pre-registration is not necessary, but visitors are asked to register at our reading room desk on their first visit of the year.

Directions

By public transport:

  • From Amsterdam Central Station: bus 22, bus stop Veelaan (+ 1 minute walk), or tram 26, tram stop Rietlandpark (+ 11 minute walk).
  • From Amsterdam Amstelstation: bus 65, bus stop Veelaan (+ 1 minute walk).
  • From Amsterdam Station Muiderpoort: bus 22, bus stop Veelaan, or walk (15 minutes).
  • From the Amsterdam city centre: tram 7 to Van Eesterenlaan (+ 10 minute walk), or tram 14 to Javaplein (+ 5-10 minute walk).

By car:

On the ring road (A10), take the Zeeburg exit (S114), drive to the traffic lights and follow the signs Zeeburg over the bridge (left). After the bridge, turn right at the traffic lights. Turn right at the next traffic lights (Molukkenstraat). Follow straight ahead on Molukkenstraat, which becomes Veelaan. The large white building in front of you at the end is the IISH.

Please note, there is only paid parking in the vicinity of the IISH.
