Ad Knotter

Ad Knotter (1952) studied history at Utrecht University. PhD at that university (1991) with a dissertation on the Amsterdam labour market in the nineteenth century. Was an archivist at the Amsterdam City Archives (1978-1998). In 1998 he moved to Maastricht to become director of the Centre for the Social History of Limburg and professor of comparative regional history at Maastricht University. In 2012 he joined the editorial board of the International Review of Social History (until 2019). Since 2019 he is a honorary research fellow at the IISH to work on a history of Dutch trade unionism in the 1960s and 1970s. Main publication in this field: Transformations of Trade Unionism. Comparative and Transnational Perspectives on Workers Organizing in Europe and the US, Eighteenth to Twenty-first Centuries (Amsterdam 2018).​
