Are you an early career researcher (PhD, postdoc) working with judicial sources? Are you looking to exchange ideas and discuss the methodological issues around using this particular type of source with other like-minded historians? In June 2022 two upcoming events at the IISH (Amsterdam) may be of interest to you.

Firstly, the masterclass 'Crime and Justice in Historical Context: Theory, Methods and Perspectives’ on using judicial sources with Robert Shoemaker (co-director of The Old Bailey Online) on 8 June. The focus of this masterclass will be a methodological discussion on the use of judicial sources as a lens onto everyday lives. Secondly, the symposium ‘Voices in the Justice System: Agency of Victims, Plaintiffs, Witnesses and the Accused in Global Perspective’ on 9 June 2022. This symposium seeks to bring historians from the 'Inclusion, Exclusion and Mobility' and 'Routes and Roots in Colonial and Global History' together to discuss the agency of those who encountered the justice system. Our guest speakers are: Prof. Robert Shoemaker, Prof. Nandini Chatterjee, Dr. Marjolein Schepers and Sophie Rose. Please register your attendance by 15 May by sending an email to tolerantmigrantcities@gmail.com.
