Rosa Kösters

PhD Researcher

Rosa Kösters is a PhD Researcher at the International Institute of Social History. She studied History at the University of Amsterdam (cum laude).

Her PhD project, supervised by prof. dr. Leo Lucassen and dr. Matthias van Rossum, studies the consequences and reactions of workers and the trade unions in the Netherlands to the changing labour relations from 1970-2010. She aims to look at social relations among workers at the shop floor and their ability to organize. The project focusses on a combination of subsectors and asks how a transformation in work generated fragmentation and what characterized the fragmentation among workers in this period.

For her research master thesis on the transformation in work and workfloor solidarities at Philips and Hoogovens in the 1970s and 1980s, Rosa won the Dutch Thesis Award for Studies of the Labour Movement 2018 . She participated in the IISH and FNV project Exploring the recent History of Labour Union Practices in 2017 and is co-author of Precaire Polder.
