Görkem Akgöz

Fellow

Görkem Akgöz (1980) studied sociology at Middle East Technical University (BA 2003) and State University of New York at Binghamton (MA 2005), and social and behavioural sciences at the University of Amsterdam (PhD 2012). She taught sociology and history at SUNY Binghamton (2005-2007) and Hacettepe University (2010-2017). In 2017, she had to leave her home country Turkey due to political persecution. She has been a post-doc fellow at re:work (IGK Work and Human Life Cycle in Global History) of Humboldt University since September 2017.

Her main research interests are global labour history, political economy, and women and gender history. Her empirical research concerns the Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey.

She is the co-chair of the Labour Network of the European Social Science History Conference, the co-coordinator of the Workplaces: Pasts and Presents working group of the European Labour History Network, and a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Review of Social History.
