Maissan Hassan

Maissan Hassan has an interdisciplinary background in social sciences and humanities. She has a BA in Sociology and Film from the American University in Cairo, and an MA in Arts and Culture (Museums and Collections) from Leiden University. Maissan has a rich experience working with a multiplicity of feminist and human rights groups, international NGOs, and research institutes.

She has a keen interest in developing and exhibiting archival and oral history collections. Her thematic focus includes social movements, women’s history, and gender issues.

In 2022, she joined the IISH as a collection developer of historical and contemporary international and non-Dutch collections and data. In 2025, she became Head of Collection Development.
