Book 'Open Archief. Artistic Reuse of Archives' available now
Since 2020, the IISH has been involved in the joint project program “Open Archief,” together with Sound & Vision and New Institute. Within this program, several exhibitions and workshops have already taken place, to increase knowledge about creative reuse of archives among both artists and heritage institutions.
Book
Now the project has been relaunched to record all this knowledge in the form of a book: Open Archief. Artistic Reuse of Archives. With this book, we want to paint a picture of archival reuse by artists and how they relate (themselves) to archives and archival institutions. In doing so, we want to demonstrate to the archival community, and anyone else, that archive reuse is co-creation. The book also wants to inspire readers to actively choose to work with archives: the essays in this publication provide many examples and avenues to explore. Finally the book is aimed at a wider audience interested in art and archives. We hope to offer insight into the dynamics at play between ‘archive’ and user. This book itself is also meant as a form of archive and a co-creation. We invite our readers to become part of a co-creating journey. Readers will read the essays, which are re/co-creations themselves, differently, adding their own contexts and perspectives.
