King Willem-Alexander visits the IISH
On 3 December, the King, patron of the KNAW, visited the IISH. After a tour of the archives, which covered the history of the IISH, the King talked to researchers and collection specialists in the reading room about the various projects of the IISH.
For instance, colleagues talked about the digitisation of archives, recently launched projects on energy transitions, protest and work, strikes, a global centre for collective labour action, and the slave trade and resistance of enslaved people in Asia.
The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion with key IISH stakeholders: Greenpeace, the FNV, Instituut GAK and the Nationaal Archief, on key challenges facing the IISG, such as funding for its large (and growing) heritage collection, security and accessibility of data and digital collections, and closer and more equal cooperation with civil society organisations in the Netherlands and abroad.
