Opening exhibition Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations and Anti-Nuclear Solidarities.
On 13 February, Framer Framed will open the exhibition Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations and Anti-Nuclear Solidarities. The exhibition focuses on anti-nuclear energy protest and the power structures associated with nuclear energy and testing.
The IISG contributed by highlighting historical examples of international resistance to nuclear energy with material from its own collection. For example, there are photographs of the anti-nuclear protests against the Urenco uranium enrichment plant in Almelo and material on solidarity with anti-apartheid groups fighting against uranium mining in South Africa-occupied Namibia.
The central theme of Between Fires is the North Kazakh steppe around Semey, where the former Soviet Union conducted large-scale nuclear tests between 1948 and 1991. Curator Fabienne Rachmadiev presents poetic and audiovisual works by various artists in the exhibition.
The opening is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and admission is free. The exhibition runs until 17 May 2026. Read more and register via the website of Framer Framed.
