Palestine in Focus - Multinationals at work
In this sixth event of Palestine in Focus, we focus on the workplace. Because although it is hard to realise: our lives and work are hugely entangled with the colonisation of Palestine and the violence against Palestinians. Therefore, this afternoon you will get all the information you need to know about how your pension and laptop contribute to occupation and colonisation, and what you can do about it.
Gerard Jonkman, director at The Rights Forum, speaks about the links between multinational companies and human rights issues in Israel and the Occupied Territories. This includes, for example, HP (Hewlett Packard) and how the company's software and hardware are used to oppress Palestinians and bring about apartheid. He also addresses pension funds such as the Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds (ABP), to which more than 3 million people are affiliated and through investments (shares and bonds) worth over EUR 2.5 billion contribute to the maintenance and expansion of Israel's illegal settlements. The Rights Forum was involved in the research and report called Don't buy into occupation. There will be plenty of time to ask questions, during the session and afterwards during drinks.
Language: The talks will be in Dutch, but we provide a translator. If you are interested, could you please let us know in advance?
