Webinar: the recruitment of South Asian migrants workers to the Europan Union
A staggering number of South Asian migrant workers are recruited to work in European Union member states. Increasingly these workers do not remain in the country of arrival but go on to work in another member state.
What are the labour conditions of these third country nationals? Why do they come to Europe? How can trade unions and politicians improve their situation? And how can trade unions be involved in future initiatives relating to them?
This webinar will present the results of the report Shifting Labour Frontiers: the Recruitment of South Asian Migrant Workers to the European Union, commissioned by Mondiaal FNV, and conducted by IISG Amsterdam, in collaboration with the University of Lodz, Poland, and Equidem Research and Consulting, Nepal. The study explores the recruitment, employment and living conditions of migrant workers from South Asia working as temporary migrant workers within the European Union, with a special focus on Nepal as a country of origin and Poland as country of transit and destination. It reviewed relevant research and policy literature, developed analyses using primary migration data and documents, and elicited feedback from various stakeholders in the public and private sectors, both in Nepal and in Poland, and directly from Nepalese migrants themselves.
