Migration history is both a prominent part of Global Labour History as well as crucial element of Global Economic History.
In 2011 Rebels with a Cause an Exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the IISH was held in the building of Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam.The website of the project showed an online exhibition.

On the Waterfront is the semi-annual magazine of the IISH. This is issue 35 (2018)
The IISH is one of the 16 Institutes of the Royal Academy of Arts an Sciences (KNAW), which is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences.
For some time now the IISH has had a reliable infrastructure for recording and storing digital collections and making them accessible. An important component of this infrastructure is the digital repository, where the collections are preserved for the long term and can be accessed online and offline.

Onsite Workshop
On Fridays we offer onsite learning workshops for interested groups that want to work with the collections of the IISH.
The HINDI research group, in collaboration with the International Institute of Social History (IISH), will be organizing at Thu-Fri 22-23 March 2018 a workshop on the economic geography of long-run industrialization (approx. 1800 – 2010) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Editorial Policy
The TSEG journal is published four times a year and offers scholarly articles on a broad range of topics from the social and economic history of the Low Countries.
The IRSH aims to be truly global in scope and stresses the need for a comparative perspective that acknowledges the interrelationship of historical change and the phenomena and factors underlying that change.

The IISH is the largest institution in the world dedicated to social history research. Since 1935 the Institute has served as a site for rescuing and safeguarding the cultural heritage of labour movements and other emancipatory groups and movements.
Maintaining, preserving, and providing access to books, archives, and collections is costly – sometimes too costly for an individual to cover. More modest contributions are also very welcome! Up to € 150, you share in the costs.
There are several ways to adopt: in your own name or on behalf of a loved one, such as a friend or a family member. Adoption on behalf of a group, organization or company is possible as well. Alternatively, if you wish, you can adopt in someone's memory.

Focussing on the Friends of the IISH:
In well-informed circles, Max Nettlau was known as the 'Herodotus of Anarchy', the first and greatest historian of the anarchist movement. The name of the International Institute of Social History (1935) very nearly was the Max Nettlau Institute.
He was the son of Benjamin de Lieme, a kosher butcher, and Aaltje Goudsmit. On 30 March 1908 he married Rebecca Kahn, who bore him a daughter and a son. De Lieme learned about Jewish history, tradition and culture from his father, who was a Talmudic scholar.
On 25 November 1935 the International Institute of Social History was established.
She was the daughter of Jentje Johan Kleefstra, an educationalist and founder of the Brinio School in Hilversum, and Piternella Nanette Dekker. On 24 October 1907 she married the poet Carel Steven Adama van Scheltema. The couple did not have children.
He was the son of Nicolaas Wilhelmus Posthumus, a geography teacher and three-year HBS [secondary school] headmaster, and Huibertje IJzerman. On 20 July 1908 he married Dorothea Maria van Loon, with whom he had a daughter and a son. This marriage ended in divorce on 1 August 1928.

In 1914, Nicolaas W. Posthumus (1880-1960), one of the pioneers of modern economic history in the Netherlands, set up the Netherlands Economic History Archive (NEHA), the first in a series of scholarly institutions that he initiated.
To promote this, we form an international hub for social historians worldwide. We offer and produce historical sources and data, facilitate social-history research and collaborate internationally in ground breaking research projects.
