Value of the Guilder versus Euro

We have discontinued the Guilder to Euro conversion tool. The tool was designed to give a rough estimate of the current value of items and services in the past. Comparing historical data is complex and always involves a degree of interpretation. The tool presented an oversimplified picture that does not do justice to the fragmentary nature of historical data, which means that we are no longer confident that the tool offers ample insight.

We continue to make the underlying data of the tool available and encourage users to interpret it for themselves.

Alternatively, the CBS offers a tool that shows how consumer prices in the Netherlands have developed since 1900 (available in Dutch only).
