Open Archive 2020-21

25 September 2020 - 14:41

IISH is joining a new edition of Open Archive that launches this autumn.

Together with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and Het Nieuwe Instituut we will stimulate the creative re-use of digital heritage in 2020/21 by offering creators the opportunity to create new media work using open, digital collections. This autumn three media artists will be selected to participate in the project in which they will conduct research in and reflect upon copyrighted and open collections.

This year, Open Archives has opted for a specific theme: RE: SEARCH. The theme serves as inspiration for the participants and can be explored from different angles. RE: SEARCH is intended to evoke a sense of playfulness, stemming from archival research that provides both answers and questions, and which is both exploratory and focused.

Open Call

Three creative practitioners will be given the opportunity to create a new, autonomous media work within a six-month working period, using the public and digitized collections of the three organizing institutes. The selected artists receive a working grant of €7,800. Deadline for the proposals is the 30th of October at 17:00 (CET).

International symposium

To share the knowledge and insights that arise from Open Archives, we are organising an international symposium in 2021 that focuses on three topics: Re:Use, Re:Search and Copyright. It will be a multidisciplinary event in which professionals from different fields (image makers, artists and heritage and copyright professionals) will come together to share knowledge and insights about and critically assess the artistic reuse of heritage.

More information about the open call and the programme can be found at www.openarchief.com. If you have questions, please contact openarchief@beeldengeluid.nl
