Almudena Rubio

Almudena Rubio Pérez is an art historian with an MA from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2005). She is a researcher at the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam since 2016. While working on the photo archive of the anarchist organization CNT-FAI from the Spanish Civil War entrusted to the Institute, she identified the photo archive of the Hungarian Kati Horna and the Polish Margaret Michaelis. She published two articles on the topic in the Spanish academic journal Historia Social (January 2020 and October 2022). She gave lectures and curated different exhibitions related to her findings in Spain and the Netherlands. In 2021 she participated in the project led by the Reina Sofia Museum “Frente y retaguardia: mujeres en la Guerra Civil” and she was part of the jury of the Festival Robert Capa Estuvo Aquí in Madrid. Nowadays, she is the curator of the exhibition Las cajas de Amsterdam: Kati Horna y Margaret Michaelis en la Guerra Civil, part of the festival PhotoEspaña 2022.
