Vandaag verschijnt het onderzoeksrapport Het slavernijverleden van historische voorlopers van ABN AMRO. Een onderzoek naar Hope & Co en R. Mees & Zoonen. Het rapport is geschreven door Dr. Pepijn Brandon en Dr. Gerhard de Kok, en is het resultaat van wetenschappelijk onderzoek dat in opdracht van ABN AMRO werd uitgevoerd aan het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (IISG).

Great news! Dr. Peyman Jafari, affiliated with the International Institute of Social history and Princeton University, has been awarded a VENI grant of 280.000 euro by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for his project Oil Frontiers in the British and Dutch Empires: Land, Labour and Environment in the Making of an Imperial Oil Regime, 1890-1940.

Kunstenaars Alice Wong & Simo Tse, Remco Torenbosch en Daria Kiseleva zijn via een open call geselecteerd voor het project Open Archief 3.0. Open Archief richt zich op het creatief hergebruik van archiefmateriaal. Op basis van de open, digitale collecties van Het Nieuwe Instituut, Beeld en Geluid en het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis, maken deelnemers een nieuw mediawerk waarin artistiek onderzoek en autonoom makerschap centraal staat.

HSN-vrijwilliger Ben Mouwes heeft zondag 27 maart de Andreaspenning ontvangen uit handen van Micha Mos, lid van het dagelijks bestuur van het stadsdeel Centrum. Hij ontving de onderscheiding voor zijn grote inzet voor de speeltuinvereniging De Waag, die 100 jaar bestaat. De Andreaspenning wordt toegekend aan personen die grote prestaties hebben verricht op sociaal, cultureel, maatschappelijk of economisch gebied voor Amsterdam, en aan personen die zich minimaal tien jaar als vrijwilliger voor een maatschappelijk doel hebben ingezet.

With the generous support of the Farman-Farmaian Family, the IISH launches a new edition of the fellowship programme named the Prince Dr Sabbar Farman-Farmaian Fellowships for scholars who wish to use its collections for the study of social and economic history of 18th - 20th century Iran, whether from a regional, national, or comparative and transnational perspective.

Het Nederlandse Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, Het Nieuwe Instituut en het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis bieden drie mediamakers een artist in residence-programma aan van zes maanden om een nieuw, autonoom mediawerk te maken. Daarbij maken ze gebruik van de open, digitale collecties van de drie instellingen. De geselecteerde makers ontvangen een werkbeurs (honorarium en productiebudget) van €7.800. Voorstellen kunnen tot en met 25 februari 2022, 17:00 uur worden ingediend.

Per 1 februari 2022 is Eric de Ruijter benoemd als nieuwe directeur Data & Collecties van het IISG.

Last November, after a long fight against cancer, our friend and colleague María Ullivarri passed away. Visiting Fellow at the IISH in 2011-2012 and 2015-2016, she also played a key role in the process that led to the creation of our Latin American Labour History Network and its publication, the Revista Latinoamericana de Trabajo y Trabajadores.

The Story of Work: A New History of Humankind, het magnum opus van Jan Lucassen, werd 27 juli in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en 31 augustus in de VS gepubliceerd door Yale University Press. Het boek is het resultaat van Jan Lucassens decennialange onderzoek naar de geschiedenis van werk en arbeidverhoudingen.

Just before the end of the Spanish Civil War in April 1939, the anarchists of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) and the Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI) managed to safeguard their archives by sending them to the International Institute of Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam.
